FirstRepair Mural Unveiling

FirstRepair Office 1900 Asbury ave, Evanston, IL, United States

The FirstRepair headquarters in Evanston, Illinois is now wrapped in a vibrant mural representing the reparations movement and the historic steps of the Evanston community. The mural depicts life with reparations, focusing on joy and the promise of a repaired future. The mural incorporates symbols relevant to the reparations movement, black liberation, and FirstRepair. Later in 2024 and into 2025, FirstRepair will activate QR codes incorporated in the mural, so that visitors to the area can learn more about the history, context, and background of the reparations movement.

The mural was designed and created by artist Damon Reed, who has contributed to several murals in Evanston, and informed by input from reparations leaders from across the nation during a visioning session at FirstRepair and NAARC’s 2023 Symposium.
